Akanksya Dahal

Akanksya Dahal is London-born Nepalese photographer specialising in photojournalism and portraiture, with a strong emphasis on storytelling. Her practice began with street photography, where she discovered a deep interest in capturing candid, quiet and fleeting moments that often go unnoticed.

While working on her “Nepal 2023” project, Dahal became drawn to the overlooked mundanity of everyday life – people immersed in routine and engaged in their ordinary tasks. This project marked a turning point in her creative journey as a photographer and as an individual, deepening her appreciation for the subtle power of the everyday and guiding her toward a more intentional narrative driven approach to photojournalism.

This exploration continued into her third year at Ravensbourne University London, where she based her final two projects in Switzerland. The first, a Client Brief titled “Prabin in Basel”, in which she travelled to Switzerland to document the life of her maternal uncle, Prabin as a Nepali living in Basel for 19 years. For her Final Major Project, she captured the essence of scenic Swiss landscapes alongside the quiet and fleeting moments that unfold within them further expanding on the perspective she began to form during “Nepal 2023”.

With the support of her tutors throughout all three academic years, she refined a visual style that blends documentary practice with cinematic sensibility. Through a cinematic and narrative-driven lens, Dahal’s work invites viewers to pause and reflect on the beauty and emotional resonance found in life’s most unremarkable moments.
