Elysia Morton

Elysia Morton is a London born designer, working flexibly across Menswear, Womenswear, Unisex fashion and Accessories.

Morton explores the importance of functionality, with designing for a purpose being the focus of all her work. How a practical and well-designed item can be more than drab but create visual narrative within itself. She also explores subliminal messaging and social commentary within the garments.

With an interest in both 2D and 3D, Morton experiments with various design elements and developmental processes using mediums such as draping; textural techniques like embroidery and fabric manipulation; pattern development through sublimation, block, and digital printing; 3D printing; laser cutting and etching; as well as deconstructing and creating her own patterns. She is also developing and advancing her skills in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

Puckered Seam
Puckered SeamPuckered seam is a project in which Morton explored the value of the fails, the slips, the mistakes and glitches in fashion design. The design development was informed by a series of childhood photographs her mum took of her and brother holiday naps. The design development was heavily influenced by wire weaving and the experimental draping from that, which led to the development of free weaving and knitting with a deconstructed blanket. The purpose for this project was to reinvent the imperfect techniques/manufacturing errors embodying the dishevelled nature we wake from a restful sleep.
Stratum Q Collaborative Project Development
Stratum Q Collaborative Project DevelopmentStratum Q was a joint Project in which Morton was paired with 3 Fashion + Textiles and 2 Fashion Communicator other students. Design a line with a shoot theme of Techno-Nature: Harmonising Innovation and Sustainability in Fashion. Collectively creating the concept (It is 3025. Found a time capsule of the garments made now (2025) showing a time when nature and technology were still working together. Looking at the elements Fire (UNISEX), Earth (MENSWEAR), Air/Water (WOMENSWEAR)) In which Morton designed similarly themed accessories for Fire and Air/Water. This had a focus of print which helped Morton unify the line and pattern construction creating the elemental pieces.

The Deaf Voice Developmental ShootPart of Morton's Final Major Project where she explored the ways the Deaf Community are neglected and the impacts that follow them throughout their life. In this shoot, she experimented with projected images from her research on to the two accessories (combining it with potential styling and pose practises before the final shoot).
The Deaf Voice Final Shoot
The Deaf Voice Final ShootThese were the final selected images from the shoot. The pieces replicate for a hearing person the restriction of the language barrier a Deaf person faces in a neglectful society.
