Jack Turner

Jack Turner is a product designer with a hands on approach to solving problems through thoughtful design. Turner’s work is rooted in a strong belief that good design doesn’t just look good, it solves real world problems to improve people’s daily lives. His process blends physical sketching, rapid prototyping, and digital tools to explore how objects and interfaces can better serve their users.

With a particular interest in CAD modelling and prototyping, Turner has developed projects that range from packaging concepts to inclusive, user friendly furniture. He thrives in collaborative environments, often working closely with like-minded designers and end-users to refine and test ideas. His recent projects include a tray designed for holistic and mindful tea drinkers.

Usage Scenario
Usage ScenarioThe tea tray features traditional Japanese teaware and a carbon fibre drip tray adorned with cherry bark veneer. Its design draws inspiration from Japanese crafts like Kabazaiku and Maki-e.
Drip Tray CNC Machining Process
Drip Tray CNC Machining ProcessThe drip tray was made from 3mm carbon fibre pre-preg and CNC machined with channels to collect spills into an internal chamber. Holes were added for easy removal and cleaning inside the waste chamber.
Veneer Testing Prototypes
Veneer Testing PrototypesSmall swatches using 3D printed PLA filament was used to test the depth and bonding properties of both the veneer and PLA together.
Electronics and Small Tweaks
Electronics and Small TweaksInside the tray is equipped with speakers and a rechargeable battery. Foam pads and gaskets were used as dampening materials as the tray tended to resonant within the hollow electrical chamber.
