Human Nature, Are We Hiding Behind A Mask?
Human Nature, Are We Hiding Behind A Mask? This design is part of a self-published zine that explores the question: “Why do we follow rules in society?” This particular piece was inspired by themes of human nature and the ways we often adopt different personalities to conceal our true selves. This can be done due to wanting to conform and fit in with society. Blaylock created a digital collage using own photography from Mire Lee’s “Open-Wound” exhibition, layering it over imagery exploring the abstract posing of the model. The result reflects a visual tension between identity, societal expectation, and emotional expression.

Altering Appearances
Altering AppearancesThis photo shoot was inspired by the growing popularity of plastic surgery and the societal shift and popularity of altering natural appearances. This image explores themes of identity, beauty standards, and the twisting psychological impacts. The use of a misaligned mask symbolises the distortion of self-image, creating an unsettling and fragmented visual effect meant to evoke a dark, self-examining mood. The styling is deliberately minimal, with an all-black wardrobe to draw full attention to the mask and its unsettling presence, emphasising the tension between authenticity and artificiality.
Gentrification in Deptford
Gentrification in DeptfordThe woman in this image is a local resident of Deptford who approached me with curiosity during my visit. The brief interaction became a meaningful moment, reflecting the openness and character of the community. This photograph captures not only the woman herself but also the atmosphere of Deptford Market, the busy and chaotic energy, the life of the residents, and the presence of those who make the area unique. This imagery shows the local identity and the human connections that bring public spaces to life.
